Economic welfare and social well-being

 

 

What are the achievements of the Philippines in the development of important aspects of  both the economic welfare and the social well-being of the people?

Some possible aspects to look at are:

It is possible to measure the average achievements of a country in these three economic and social aspects.

The figure that shows the average achievement in these three aspects is

the Human Development Index (HDI).

 

The value of the HDI-figure ranges from  0  to  1. The figure of a country  can be used to compare the 'quality of life' of different countries.

The HDI and the ranking of the Philippines

 

In  the Human Development Report 2001, the Philippines is ranking on place 70 in a list of all countries. That's a ranking above countries as China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, but a lower ranking than Thailand and Malaysia.

 

 

 

The "top five"  of all countries!

 

As for as it concerns the Industrialized countries, in the top five are: Canada, Norway, the United States, Japan and Belgium.

 

 

 

 The "bottom five" of all countries!

In the 'bottom five' there are only African countries.

 

Pacific Asia and the HDI- ranking

In Pacific Asia the HDI values range from 0.491 in Laos to 0.888 in Singapore.
