A holiday roundtrip on a specific island in the Philippines

part 2

Specific requirements and  evaluation rubrics

With reference to the folder:
bulletThe ideas are written down in a  folder (or brochure)
bulletAt least one  map is added to show the trip and the locations
bulletThere is (at least) one activity or attraction every day for the tourists
bulletFor every day (at least) one picture is added in the folder or brochure
bullet

Attention has been given to  the "lay-out aspects" of the folder. 

Some aspects of the lay-out are:

There is an inviting title on the front-page 

bullet

A borderline is drawn around each text  

bullet

All texts and all pictures about  topics have a title

bullet

The texts are typewritten 

bullet

The name of the travel agency is on the folder

With reference to the presentation:

bullet

Length of the presentation: 5 - 10 minutes

bulletSomething is told about the program of each day and some information is  given about the chosen activities per day
bulletA map is showed with the geographical position of the chosen island.
bulletThe team has given an own opinion about the attractions of the island
bulletStudents will not read all the information the want to tell to the class. They must have contact with the class, when they give an explanation on their product. 

 

The texts;

Complete sentences are used and the spelling has been checked

bullet

The texts written down, are easy to read

bullet

When there is a lot of text, the text is divided in (smaller!) blocs, each with a attractive title

  Variations in the task
The task can be enlarged by asking extra information on one or more of the next aspects:
bulletmeans of local transportation
bulletcosts of local transport
bulletinformation on the general geography or history of the island
bulletthe number of students per group can vary

The task can be made smaller if  the students are not asked an oral presentation.

Role of the teacher
bulletThe teacher introduces the topic "Holidays in the Tropics". Questions of the teacher to the students; "What would you like to do when you could spend holidays on a tropical island?" The teacher  takes care for mentioning different possibilities, if not, he can add some possibilities. [Not only  sun,  sea and beach possibilities, but also adventure and discovering interesting  remnants of traditional cultures and discovering different landscapes].

bulletThe teacher  has to take care for the necessary forms and maps to record the gathered information. 
bulletThe teacher hands out the specific requirements and 'points of evaluation'
bulletThe teacher takes care for the active learning process and helps when necessary.
